Are you ready to learn more about what your doctor is scanning every month? There are a few parameters that we scan for, to monitor the growth and developement of your child.

Biophysical profile of the child

During different stages of pregnancy, the measurement of biophysical profile of the child defers. During early pregnancy, crown rump length is measured. Just imagine an imaginary line drawn from the top most area of your baby’s head down to his buttocks. An early scan is important to determine and check for the estimated delivery date.

When the child have grown bigger. Measurements are done at different areas of the body, to maintain accuracy. This include:

  • BPD – Biparietal diameter (measurement between the temples of the child’s head )
  • HC– Head circumference
BPD and HC- the perfect spot to measure, is when you see an arrow sign.
  • AC– Abdominal circumference
  • FL– Femur legth (length of thigh bone)
the length of your child’s thigh bone

Why is it important to know the biophysical profile of the child?
To determine and monitor the weight and body size of the child is within normal parameters at a particular week.

Of course there are also other parameters that are measured. Which include the placenta and also amniotic fluid.
